Bromley and Beckenham club who draw from strong Kent and outer London hockey schools are second to Holcombe in the National League Conference East. Truth is that were it not for the luck of the Irish Lewes u18s should have won this game. Lewes lost their concentration with a bit of nonsense and they must learn from this. You don't get this behaviour in school or Lions hockey but our boys are mostly 1st and 2nd team (a year to late) and they need to get used to the mind games that tricksy players and some umpires get up to.
Apart from that advantage Bromley had at least two excellent forwards, one that Lewes would die for at any level if we are looking and so when Bromley had a chance they scored. It was not the usual flowing Lewes performance and though well organised by Chris Marchant they did have spells of giving the ball away and thus breaking up play.
I should mention a Will Wycherley hat trick of some distinction. There I've mentioned it, otherwise everyone had their great moments sadly though they also had their other moments which was a little frustrating to be sure to be sure!
We hope to play Guildford to bring this group of fabulous boys to their conclusion on 4th January 2015 as East Grinstead can't muster 11. Most will come back to Lewes in the future and if they do it will be at the top level. Apart from winning the Development League and cup it is sadly only what might have been. So we retire to the bar but definitely not a pint of Guinness!
Final score 3-4 to B&B
Charlie Wycherley.
