Sussex Ladies division 2
Lewes 4's 2
Crowborough 1s 1
A very young and inexperienced ladies 4's team travelled to Crowborough full of anticipation. 10 of the Lewes ladies team were last years’ lionesses but every girl stepped up to the plate. At a fast pace and on a very sandy pitch, Lewes battled and committed to every tackle and pass.
The first 15 minutes were fairly even and then Crowborough took control and scored against an exposed defence. Lewes re-grouped at half time and set about the second half with renewed vigour. A great linking run from Jess Whycherley down the right and a teasing cross forced Crowborough to throw bodies at the ball, resulting in a foot in front of goal and a penalty stroke to Lewes. Wycherley stepped up with confidence and scored low to the keepers left. The final 10 minutes were scrappy but Lewes persevered and a last ditch goal meant a winning start in adult hockey for a very exciting group of players.
