The Lewes 5s showcased an outstanding performance on Saturday, blending solid defensive play with relentless attacking pressure to secure a well-deserved victory.
The defence stood firm from the start, with crucial clearances and interceptions that denied Southwick any chance to gain momentum. At just 8 minutes and 50 seconds, a perfectly executed short corner saw Ella inject the ball with precision, leading to Minnie’s brilliant finish—putting Lewes in the lead early on.
The team’s offensive pressure continued, with Esme’s shot narrowly saved by the Southwick goalkeeper, while Brooke and Minnie’s excellent teamwork almost added another goal.
In the second half, at 49 minutes, Fiona demonstrated excellent ball control and precise passing to set up Ella, who scored her first-ever goal—a well-earned milestone! Esme then doubled the lead with an impressive strike at 61 minutes, making her dad’s wallet a little lighter. This was Emse's first game in the adult league and a wonder solo goal. Zara’s skilful individual run kept Southwick’s defence on their toes, showcasing her flair.
The final goal came in the 69th minute, with another short corner combination. Ella’s injection to Minnie was followed by a confident finish into the back of the net, sealing the score at 4-0.
