The Mens 5s welcomed the Worthing 5s to the Southdown for the early game this Saturday hoping to turn their recent good form into their first win of the season.
With a forward heavy squad and the return of David Churton in midfield the 5s carried more threat on the attack, pressure built on the visitors goal and after 14 minutes Lewes took the lead when Mark's ball across the face of the goal found David who tapped the ball home, it took till the 30th minute for the second goal, Joe pressed the Worthing defender and forced him backwards towards the end line and with no easy passes on made an ill-judged pass across the D where Rupert anticipated the chance and slotted home. With the 5s really ticking in attack there was still time for a third, Joe and Inzi connected in the D and Inzi took the ball round the keeper and knocked it home for a well deserved 3-0 half time lead.
Worthing made a stronger start to the second half and got a goal back after 7 minutes but the home defence of Steve, Simon, Peter, JC and Julien with 5s debutant Samuel B in goal were solid throughout. The 5s did need another goal to just calm the nerves for the final 10 minutes and some great interplay from Tom and David from the PC saw David grab his second goal.
The visitors put some pressure on the Lewes goal in the dying minutes with a succession of PC but Julien being the number 1 runner made a couple of excellent blocks to deflect the shots away from goal.
A well earned home win for the 5s and with division 3 looking quite competitive this season it's important they collect points regularly.
Thanks to co- captain James Hall who gave up his home game with the 5s last minute to help the 4s out with their game in Hastings.
The Mens 5s now have back to back away games, firstly they travel to East Grinstead to take on their 4s next Saturday.
