The Mens 5s have been playing some good supportive team hockey of late and headed to Ardingly college hoping for another strong performance which could potentially lead to their second win of the season.
There opponents Mid-Sussex 4s included two ex 5s in Alex and Ben.
The first half never really settled into a rhythm and both teams scored from a straight hit at a PC, Mark getting the visitors equaliser shortly before half time.
The second half was a similar affair although the game did get a bit more stretched as the half wore on. The hosts re-took the lead when a ball across the face of goal was missed at the near post and ex 5 Ben was there to simply finish into an empty goal. After Mid-Sussex had been reduced to 10 men when their CB received a yellow for a sliding "tackle" that sent David flying the 5s had their strongest period of the game, Rupert swept home an equaliser at the back post, Lewes converted a PC to seemingly take the lead but after initially giving the goal the umpires then decided that one of the 5s had stepped into the D to soon and ordered a retake. Back to a full compliment of players the hosts were able to convert a PC of their own when one of their young players scooped the ball high into the Lewes net.
So a frustrating 1 goal defeat leaves the 5s in the bottom 2 with 3 games left before the Xmas break. Their next game is at home v Hailsham 2s.
Wishing Ben a speedy recovery after he left the game with a bloody nose after a collision with a 5s player in his own D, unfortunately his nose was broken but has been reset and is looking forward to being back playing after a few weeks rest.
