Not a match report because I lack the necessary skills ? but I just need to say how proud we (Julia, Nick Tom and I) all are of the girls who showed such spirit and dignity in the face of a tough, experienced and mature opposition today. We were fielding an u14 (and u12) team compared to an u16 squad of at least 15 players. For a large portion of the match, we were down to 10 players (due to illness) and for two minutes down to 9! The first half saw us a bit like rabbits in the headlights.. but despite a succession of goals right from the start, I didn’t see one head go down. The second half saw much more end-to-end hockey and some determined attacking and defending … definitely a better performance in the last 35 minutes. We were the underdogs, we knew we were going to get beaten but that didn’t quash our positivity or confidence. A great training game with lots of lessons learned. I don’t like to name names because I then feel guilty about those I haven’t mentioned but in this instance, I have to highlight Isobel’s awesome game in goal ?, Emilia’s performance as left back, and Jaya’s debut for the u16s (she’s 12!). We played some great hockey and should be really proud of that. ❤
